Derrick Johnson and Justin Houston win team awards

The season has concluded and that means today is the last time the Chiefs players might see each other until offseason camps this summer. And like they always do, the Chiefs players voted for their team Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year.

Winning the MVP was first-time Pro Bowler Derrick Johnson. Perhaps the Chiefs best player all season long, Johnson finished with 131 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 2 INTs. Voted to his first Pro Bowl last week along with fellow linebacker Tamba Hali, Johnson was deservedly the team's MVP, in the fans and apparently also the players eyes.

Voted Rookie of the Year by the team was linebacker Justin Houston. After showing up late to offseason training, Houston took over the starting OLB job opposite Hali away from incumbent Andy Studebaker. Houston went on to be one of the better players on the defense and offers a very bright future for the Chiefs linebacking corps. He finished with 56 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.

These two players are both very deserving. And let's not forget both of last year's award winners will be returning to the Chiefs next season: Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry.
