Nike Displays New Team Uniforms
Just like with everything Nike does, there was a lot of hype entering today's launch of the new team uniforms. Nike, the new official outfitter of the NFL, was showcasing their new products today in New York City. First there was the new team gloves, identical to the ones used in last season's Pro Bowl. Then there was the player gear, then the fan gear. During this time, however, the uniform area of the launch was off limits.
As 11:00 CT approached, people started making their way to the stage area where Nike would present the new team uniforms. Josh Looney, from KCChiefs.com, was on the scene and provided great tweets leading up and during the presentation. He said the presentation featured a laser light show, a fog machine, and a video of Nike preparing the new uniforms, which featured the Seahawks and the designing of their 'new-age' uniforms, a complete overhaul.
After seeing this new design, I was wondering just how different the rest of the teams' uniforms, specifically the Chiefs, would be. The answer: not that much.
The Chiefs new Nike uniform, modeled by Dwayne Bowe at the launch (every team had a player present to model the new design), is very similar to the old one in appearance. Besides featuring a new tighter and more flexible fabric, it greatly resembles the original; which is just fine with me. I wasn't wanting much if any change to the design.
The only differences to the appearance of the uniforms are minor details: a bolder color of red in the uniform, a slight change to the stripes, and the numbers being moved from the sleeve to the shoulder (which is kind of cool in my opinion). To the players, the difference in uniforms is major, and Nike listened to the input of players around the league to make these new uniforms performance-based.
To purchase these new Nike products, they are on the Chiefs official website. Now is also a good time to buy some Nike stock.
