New Years Resolutions

I'm sure that everyone is aware of the New Years tradition to make resolutions for the upcoming year. Usually these are personal resolutions such as losing weight, etc. This year, however, I think it's a good time to make resolutions for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, to clarify, a resolution is a resolve or determination to accomplish a certain act. So, resolutions for a team would be a little different then personal resolutions. These resolutions are more like goals or objectives.

Resolutions:

  • Stay unbeaten at home: I'm not just talking about tomorrow, or the playoffs, I'm talking about next season as well.
  • Win a playoff game: The last time the Chiefs won a playoff game was back on January 16th, 1994, against the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans). Plus I'm going to be at the game and I would love to see a win.
  • Keep Charlie Weis: This would be a great feat considering the improvement of our offense.
  • Don't hire Josh McDaniels: If it turns out that Weis is indeed gone after this season, McDaniels is not the solution to replace him. This has nothing to do about the handshake controversy, about him being the former head coach of an AFC West rival, or even about his unsuccessful time with the Broncos. This is simply about our offense. McDaniels was a great offensive coordinator for the Patriots and worked with Cassel while there. He also made Kyle Orton one of the league's leading passers and Brandon Lloyd a Pro Bowl wide receiver. But with both those teams, they were passing offenses. No matter how efficient Cassel has been this season, we are a running football team and we are good at it. The Broncos are 28th in the NFL at rushing with 93.2 yards a game average. This is not what we need. I'd love McDaniels at quarterback coach, but not offensive coordinator.
  • Keep improving: This season isn't over. We need to keep getting better and carry it over to next season because I guarantee you the schedule won't be quite as favorable. But with San Diego having 21 unrestricted free agents at the end of the season, it looks like this season could mark the changing of the guard in the AFC West.
