It's A Wonderful Offense: An "It's A Wonderful Life" Parody

In the spirit of Christmas time and all that is festive, I decided to do a little analogy for all the Chiefs fans out there. This analogy is going to be from one of my favorite movies of this time of year and one that most people have probably seen: "It's A Wonderful Life."

Now, if you are unfamiliar with the plot of the movie, it goes something like this: George Bailey, an up and coming banker of the Bedford Falls, has a mix up with money by one of his employees and looks like he will have to sell his business to the evil Mr. Potter, who wishes to rule the town. After this mix up that could send his life into jeopardy, Bailey contemplates suicide.

Just in time, however, an Angel named Clarence comes in and shows Bailey what Bedford Falls would be like without him. It is called Pottersville and the town that Bailey did so much for is now living in indecency and is unrecognizable as the town he called home. Once he sees this, he appreciates his life more. The town rallies around him, helping him raise the money needed to stay in business.

Now, how does this relate to the Chiefs? Well, like with every analogy, holes can be easily punched through it so please work with me on this and you will see the point. Matt Cassel is George Bailey. He was criticized at the beginning of the season and is still criticized today, even after the numbers he's putting up and the efficiency he's producing. Like Bailey was important to Bedford Falls, Cassel is important to the Chiefs offense (Bedford Falls being the analogy for offense if I was unclear).

Some people (in the movie really only Bailey), however, questioned if Bailey (Cassel) would even be missed if something happened to him. This question was soon answered by Clarence, giving Bailey a look at how things would be without him. Clarence is the analogy for Brodie Croyle; just like how Clarence showed Bailey that he did matter, Croyle showed all of us just how important Cassel is to the offense and to the team as a whole.

So when Cassel does come back to the offense (hopefully against St. Louis), the team will rally around him to victory, just like the town rallied around Bailey. And who is Mr. Potter? The San Diego Chargers (the best analogy of this post in my opinion). Just like how "It's A Wonderful Life" makes me appreciate my own existence a little bit more every time I watch it, seeing Croyle play last Sunday against the Chargers made me appreciate the effectiveness of Matt Cassel even more than I already did. Thanks Clarence. No, thanks Croyle (7-17, 40 yards passing, 4 sacks).
