With the regular season over, I thought it would be a good time to just write on some small stuff about the Chiefs. These are not overly important facts, but just some things you might find interesting:
Jamaal Charles held the rushing title for maybe two hours until Arian Foster and the Texans began their game against Jacksonville. Foster then surpassed Charles and became the first undrafted running back to win the rushing title since the Chiefs' own Priest Holmes in 2001.
Charles owned the record for highest rushing average per carry, eclipsing Jim Brown's mark of 6.4, until his last run of the game went for -1 yard. This then dropped him down to 6.38 yards a carry. He finishes second all time.
The Chiefs were undefeated since I started my blog. That is no more.
Following his Pro Bowl snub, Tamba Hali went on to have 2.5 sacks in the game against Oakland finishing with the most in the AFC and the second most in the NFL with 14.5. DeMarcus Ware finished in first with 15.5 sacks.
Following his Pro Bowl snub, Matt Cassel put up an atrocious 19.1 quarterback rating, completed only 33% of his passes, and was intercepted twice. After this performance, Cassel fell from 5th in the NFL in quarterback rating to 8th. This is not how you prove the Pro Bowl selection committee wrong.
In yesterday's press conference, coach Haley confirmed that Charlie Weis was leaving for the University of Florida. He also confirmed that Weis will continue to coach throughout the playoffs.
Marty Schottenheimer was inducted into the Chiefs hall of fame during halftime yesterday. Schottenheimer took the Chiefs to six straight playoff appearances from 1990-95 and then once again in 97. He won a total of three playoff games and made an AFC championship appearance.
The Chiefs are the first team since 1990 to win its division with a losing record in its division. The Chiefs finished 2-4 in the AFC West.
Yesterday didn't just determine playoff seeding, it also determined the Chiefs opponents for next year. The Chiefs home games are: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Bills, Packers, Dolphins, Vikings and Steelers. The Chiefs away games are: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Bears, Lions, Patriots, Jets and Colts. These pairings are with the AFC East and NFC North. Both divisions sent two teams to the playoffs. This will be quite the test for the Chiefs next season.
