Another rumor has come out; this one shortly after my last "rumor has it" post.
Doesn't Make Sense
Todd Haley will take over offensive coordinator duties next seaosn: When asked at his end-of-the-year press conference if he would consider calling plays himself, Haley responded: “Yeah, I will consider anything."
I don't think this is a good idea. Haley fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey before start of the 2009 season. They then went on to a 4-12 record. This season, with Charlie Weis as offensive coordinator, Haley could concentrate on head coaching responsibilities and the team as a whole benefited. We went 10-6 and the offense developed into the number one rushing team in the NFL.
If Haley goes back to calling plays, the offense could regress. And by even saying that calling the plays himself is a possibility, Haley might be turning away potential targets for the offensive coordinator position.
Haley has had success at the offensive coordinator position, most notably in Arizona. But we hired him to coach, lead, and shape our team, not call the plays as well. Hopefully Haley was able to recognize the success the Chiefs had this year and help find a good fit at the offensive coordinator position.
In other news, several sources, players, and Haley himself, denied that Haley took offensive play calling duties away from Charlie Weis after halftime. When asked if this had happened, he commented: "Absolutely not true."
